Green card photo guide

Green Card Photos Online - Instant Digital + Prints Delivered

Form I-485 and related green card filings still tell you to include two identical passport-style photos. Since December 12, 2025, USCIS takes the photo used on your actual green card at your biometrics appointment, so the photos in your packet are for the file, not the card.

What changed in December 2025

USCIS announced that it will no longer use self-submitted photos on secure documents. The photo on your green card now comes from your biometrics appointment at an Application Support Center.

Form instructions that ask for two photos still apply until USCIS updates them, so include them if your form’s instructions say so.

Packet photo checklist

USCIS photos have a stricter recency rule than passports: 30 days, not six months.

  • Two identical prints on photo paper
  • Write your name and A-number lightly in pencil on the back
  • No glasses unless medically required
  • Place them in a small envelope attached to the form
